Can you reverse or cancel a USDT transfer?
Updated October 28, 2026
Short answer: no. Once a USDT (TRC-20) transfer on TRON is in a block it can't be cancelled, reversed or charged back, and no wallet or service, TronTransfer included, can undo it. If you sent to the wrong address, ask the owner of that address to return it; if it was theft, report it to the police, who can ask Tether to freeze USDT at the address in some cases. Ignore “recovery” offers: they are almost always a second scam.
Blockchains have no undo button by design: there is no bank in the middle to call. That makes the minute before you press send the most important part of any USDT transfer.
If you just sent USDT to the wrong address
- Find the transaction. Paste the transaction ID into explorer.trontransfer.com or Tronscan and confirm the recipient address and status.
- Exchange address? If it's a deposit address at an exchange (yours or someone else's), contact that exchange's support with the transaction ID. Exchanges can sometimes credit or return a mis-sent deposit.
- Someone you know? Ask them to send it back. Only the owner of the receiving address can move the USDT.
- A scam or theft? Report it to the police straight away with the transaction ID and the scammer's address. Law enforcement can ask Tether to freeze USDT held at that address.
- Ignore recovery offers. Anyone who messages you promising to get the USDT back for a fee is running another scam.
How to avoid it next time
- Never copy a recipient from your transaction history: that's how address poisoning works.
- Compare the whole address, not just the first and last few characters, or use a saved contact.
- For a large amount, send a small test first and confirm it arrived.
- Check the address before you send. TronTransfer checks every recipient for known scams and frozen USDT before you confirm.
Frequently asked questions
I sent USDT to the wrong address. What should I do?
Look up the transaction ID on a TRON explorer to confirm where it went. If the address belongs to an exchange, contact that exchange's support with the transaction ID. If it belongs to someone you know, ask them to return it. If it was a scam, report it to the police quickly. Ignore anyone who offers to recover it for a fee.
Can Tether freeze or return my USDT?
Tether can freeze (blacklist) USDT held at specific addresses, usually at the request of law enforcement. A freeze stops the scammer moving the funds; it does not by itself send them back to you.
Are USDT recovery services real?
Treat them as scams. Nobody can reverse a TRON transaction, and people who contact you offering to recover stolen USDT for an upfront fee are almost always running a second scam.
